Yeah it did I think, or was it his single speed that he got back from some skank in the street?

Bit of an update from one of our guys below, but more importantly, know anyone who has had a a Gold Ridgeback Genesis and a Blue Scott hardtail stolen nearby too?

Hello everyone.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and a very happy New Year.

I had a bit of a surprise on New Year's Day - Chingford Police called to
tell me that they thought they had recovered my Cube. Needless to say I was
gobsmacked - not just at them finding it, but at them calling me then!

It seems that the Police raided premises nearby after a tip-off from someone
who had seen his stolen bike on eBay. They found that this guy had extensive
workshop facilities, and had swapped round a lot of kit on most of the
bikes, but stupidly not on the one spotted on eBay - a striking green (a
nice green) OnOne, custom built with rear hub gears and disc brakes - very
distinctive!

Anyway, when we went to look at my bike, I found that he had swapped
EVERYTHING off, but not the rear shock thankfully, even down to the headset,
seat clamp, shop sticker and derailleur hanger! So, the police have found my
frame, but none of the rest of it effectively. We were able to ID it by some
particular use of Lizard Skin frame protectors to stop cable rub.

Two other bikes from that haul that they are trying to trace the owners
of were a Gold Ridgeback Genesis and a Blue Scott hardtail, modded to
singlespeed, with front bash ring. If anyone is missing them, call Chingford
Police on the number that I'll post later on when they give me the right one
to call.

Big Up to Chingford Police for busting this, and a good lesson to keep an
eye on eBay if your bike is nicked. I would also make sure you have your
frame numbers stashed somewhere safe, and take some pictures as well.

I now need to work out what my next step is - try and get the frame back, or
just forget about it.

Alan

Do you know what they had to go on? Local police here weren't interested when I gave them a phone number (albeit no doubt a payg mobile) for the guy who'd pinched my King.

no, apparently coppers would not tell Alan a thing, about where the raid was or who. We suspect that they are super close to Chingford station but we have nothing to go on. Alan has had 2 bikes stolen in the past 6 months, so i guess they were slightly interested.

Annoying thing is, we probably know them in one of our groups in Epping as they know too much about bikes and who might own good bikes.
